Project Description

PERMANENT HOMES FOR INTERNALLY DISPLACED PEOPLE

In the past few years, thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes in Myanmar’s Kachin and Shan states due to an ongoing civil war. Refugees left their farms and animals behind and went into the jungle. Many made their way to Myitkyina, where churches provided them with temporary shelter.

In many cases, measures meant as short-term solutions have lasted for years. Internally displaced people continue to reside in temporary buildings and tents, with no prospects of ever returning home. Asian Children’s Mission has helped permanently resettle 200 families (about 1000 people) into new villages near Myitkyina. The people have named their new settlements Comfort Village and Happy Village.

Our resettlement initiatives include materials for new houses, purchasing undeveloped land suitable for farming, providing farm animals, offering vocational training and building houses. Our primary partners in these initiatives are IDES and Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
