Project Description

EMERGENCY FOOD AND NECESSITIES TO THOSE IN NEED

From our beginnings in 2008, we have helped people recover from disasters in many parts of the country. The emergency situations we have responded to include:

  • Cyclones (Same storm as a hurricane, but located in the South Pacific or Indian Oceans)
  • Earthquakes
  • Flooding
  • Landslides
  • Armed conflict (A civil war has raged in parts of Myanmar for decades)
  • “Rat famine” — Event following the flowering of bamboo, occurring once every 50 years. The rat population explodes due to availability of bamboo seeds, but then the rats devastate crops.

Thanks to the essential assistance of IDES and the partnership with Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, Asian Children’s Mission has been able to provide rice and building materials to areas devastated by disaster.

“I had to leave my home, my farm and all animals that belonged to us. It is terrible to leave your own home at an old age.” Hkawn Nan, who is over 100 years old, lived in the jungle for a month before she reached a refugee camp and received provided food aid through ACM.
