Project Description

DIFFERENTLY ABLED KIDS DESERVE A FUTURE

Special needs children in Myanmar face an uphill battle. Schools do not have to accept these children, and parents may be embarrassed about their child’s disability. Making matters even worse, only a handful of schools exist for the differently abled. The result is predictable: illiterate, unemployable and hopeless adults who may have to resort to begging on the street.

ACM’s Joshua Schools will meet some of this need. The school is named after Maximillian Joshua Cranson, the autistic grandson of Joana (founder of ACM). Joana recognized the difference trained therapists make in the quality of his life. More importantly, the school is named after Joshua of the Old Testament — a great leader who helped his people find their promised land. We believe that every child holds a promise, and it is our job to help them seek and claim their potential.

The first Joshua School opens in Mandalay on October 20, 2018.
