By Deeram, ACM teacher in the village of Purtaikgyi

Myo Hlaing Win is a boy with a lot of faith in God. He is also a student who is trying his best. His father lives in a boat fishing to support the family while his mother and the children are living in a bamboo house in the village. One night there was a strong wind and Myo’s father’s boat disappear. The next morning, Myo was playing with other children. A man from the village called Myo and said, “Myo Hlaing Win, your father was taken by the wind last night. We are all sure that he is dead. It will be hard to find his body.” But Myo kept playing and said, “I prayed to God. Everything is under the control of God. I can do nothing.”
The village people talked to each other, “What kind of a child is he. He is not even sorry for his father.” A few days later his father was found alive in the sea. Then the village people started talking, “Is their God also living in the sea?” All they know is the statue of Gautama (Buddha). He is where they place him. If they place inside the house, they believe that their god takes care of the house. They know nothing about a living God, a God who is everywhere at the same time.
But the children know. They believe that God is the one who takes care of them and everyone. Sometimes, the children ask me, “We know we need to pray before going to bed and before the meals. But we are afraid of our parents, so we pray in bed as we lay down. Is that offending our God?” I tell them God understands every situation and every heart. May God bless these children as they grow in Christ.
One time a boy asked me, “Teacher we know we believe in God and accept Jesus as our savior.  But what do we do after that? Is that enough? Is there anything we need to do?” I have not taught them about baptism thinking: (1) they are too young, and (2) their parents will not want us as teachers if we baptize them.
The nearest teacher I can discuss is Timothy. (Timothy is married to Maeram, ACM’s educational coordinator). He has given me some booklets to teach the children which help them understand more about the Bible, in Buddhist concept. We are praying that God may show us a way to baptize these children.
