Project Description

CHANGING CHILDREN’S LIVES: A VISION MADE REALITY

It was the street children in Myitkyina that kept Joana awake at night during her first visit to the country in 2007. She wondered how she could help long after she returned home.

For years, Ah Dee Che, a Baptist pastor in Myitkyina wanted to open an orphanage for Lisu children. He wanted them to have security and an education. He spoke from his heart as he described his vision, which reflected Joana’s desire to make a lasting difference in children’s lives. Joana agreed to provide funds for a simple bamboo building, and to send monthly support for 20 children.

Loving Fountain Orphanage Center opened in 2008. Ten years later, the bamboo building is gone, and has been replaced by sturdy brick and concrete buildings that house about 80 children from kindergarten age through high school. Just as significantly, the campus has turned into a community development center for the Lisu people. Vocational training is held on the campus, along with medical clinics and other special outreaches.
